Illicit
This film on illicit practices was very interesting. It is so sad to see how dominant these acts and trades are throughout the world. It is also so depressing to hear what a battle it is for officials to stop it, that they have no edge because of the sheer numbers that all this is happening at. It is amazing to think that somebody could mess with the cough syrup that my little sister could be consuming. That makes my skin crawl. Better yet, it makes me more concerned to think that may have already been a victim of illegal drug consumption. My family and I used to go to Mexico every year and go shopping. We buy sandals, hats, jewelry- all legal purchases, but we also stop at one of the pharmacy stores on our way out. My mother has purchased amoxicillin and pain killers. I myself had purchased some thinking I could get a lower price. The scary part of the whole deal is that toward the bottom of the bottle of pain pills I took, instead of working, they gave me massive headaches. It took me a few times to notice that they were having adverse affects. Of course I threw them in the trash and stop taking them, thinking I got a fake batch. After this video, it makes me sick to think what could very well have been in those pills. And also what could be in the ones my family takes. There is no question I will be headed home to talk with them about getting rid of those, and thinking about purchasing pills in the future along with bags, etc.

EOC week 8
My first plan of action for my Supreme Court Case, is to map out my plan of attack, as to stay on task. Due dates, information that is required, etc.
I'm going to read more about what exactly was envolved in the case, how long ago this occured, what was the outcome of it and how it is affecting the people/companies/laws today.
Since my case is in regards to the popular compnay Johnson & Johnson I will research thier product and customer policies.

rights as a property owner
When renting your property you have the right to ask for any amount of security deposits, pet deposits, credit checks and references. If you fail to deliver any of these things the property owner has the right to go to the court and file for an eviction.A property owner can be held responsible for anything wrong with the property and will have to fix any problems that the property may have.
As a property owner you have the right to do what you want on your property as long as you aren’t violating any codes or ordinances in your state, or county. You have the right to have over whoever you want to. Property owner’s can have pets and children or roommates if they choose to.
When you own a property you have the rights to the land, houses, buildings, fixtures and trees extending down from the core of the earth through the airspace. A landlord is the owner of real property they give up that right when a tenant agrees to pay for the use of real property. The landlord has the right to collect the agreed-upon rent in the lease, and they also have the right to regain possession of the property in a good condition at the end of any lease. Landlords have the right to make limitations by state statutes and any local ordinances to evict any tenant for not paying rent, illegal use to the property and any violations of the lease terms. A landlord has the right to terminate a lease if the tenant violates the lease by excessive noise, disturbing other tenants, or using a residence as a business.

GREED IS GOOD
First of all, coming from a journalism background, I can’t get over the fact that the word boondoggles was used in the Wall Street Journal. That cracks me up. Moving on... I honest to God don’t understand Wall Street much besides doing a mock stock buying program in one of my high school business classes. Call me a dumb blonde, but other than stock, I don’t understand what it’s all about. I can agree with the quote in the movie “GREED IS GOOD.” Well at times, yes, it can be. I believe our country was partly built on it. If you don’t have the passion to want something more than anything else, well than there’s no guarantee you will achieve it. You almost have to have the greed or you may be pushed so low you give up.

Bong Hits For Jesus
I firmly agree with the court’s ruling. The controversy inducing kid got what he deserved. Anytime a child is in school and is disturbing the peace of the other students, the staff has to assess that and take action. The argument was made that the student wasn’t on school campus, and therefore wasn’t “at” school, but as the court explained, “The event in question occurred during normal school hours and had been sanctioned by the principal as an approved social event at which the district's student conduct rules expressly applied. Under these circumstances, Frederick could not claim that he was not at school.”
The main argument was that the school had violated the student’s freedom of speech. Luckily there are already laws in order for that. As a school, full of young individuals who constantly try to test their waters, there has to be rules. If every student got to act and say what they wanted to because they would be backed up by the First amendment there would be chaos! Students are in a learning environment to learn, and learn the right things at that. Another child promoting drugs does not support that and SHOULD have the backing of the courts.
The article also explained that the court’s ruling was supported by reiterating: “Student expression may not be suppressed unless school officials reasonably conclude that it will materially and substantially disrupt the work and discipline of the school."
This has been tested over and over throughout high schools everywhere and been put into action for many previous circumstances. I completely agree with it.

reply to blog number 2
I have to say I agree with a little bit of what you’re saying but I don’t understand how can you say that the law shouldn’t focus as ‘much’ on alcohol and drugs and stuff, instead focus on murder, violence, robbery, etc. The deal is, that’s where most of it begins! These murderers, robbers, wife-beaters, etc. are usually acting like this due to addictions to drugs and alcohol. I don’t think it’s really that easy to say where we should focus on one bad thing more than another. If we want this country to be peaceful and have order I think the government has to worry about making sure there is a healthy balance on all crime. As far as celebrities getting away with everything they do, I agree- it’s B.S. any normal person pullin those stunts would get in much more trouble.

I agree. I think that the law creates a sense of protection, yet a sense of fear. They try to uphold order and keep peace yet there are corrupt instances where they will do whatever it takes to complete that task, be it right or wrong. We are told to respect and appreciate our system yet this blogger has a great point- why do normal, well behaved citizens get nervous when police come around when they’ve done nothing wrong? All the horror stories? All the times other law abiding friends have said he pulled me over when I wasn’t even doing anything?! With power comes corruption. I’m not familiar with any law abiding country that doesn’t have that problem. I guess it all just comes down to trying to keep a good safe, balance on it all.

What I think about the law..
I feel both protected yet unsafe by the law here in the U.S.
I know in general, if somebody does wrong to me, I am protected and can take action against them. I know that there are policeman on our streets making sure things are safe and in order. I appreciate that there are rules and regulations that must be followed throughout this country to maintain and uphold a standard that has made this country what it is today. I am thankful I have freedom and can pursue my American dream. I am glad that this country takes pride in having a law and allowing its citizens to be involved.
On the other side, I know that for every year I get older and become more aware of news headlines, see more documentaries, and have intelligent conversations about what’s going on around me, I learn how corrupt the law can be. Just the other day I was in my communications class watching a clip from 60 minutes on how 2 lawyers had information about a man wrongly accused of a crime, who was sentenced to 30 years behind bars, yet couldn’t speak up because it conflicted with their current clients protection. A man had to sit in jail for years and years while these two lawyers had a man sitting in their office admitting to the crime. That’s insane to me.I know there is also much more going on then I or you will ever know with the corrupt side of the law, but for now that’s what’s up.
